Johnstown Tribune-Democrat, October 15, 2014:

CARTWRIGHT – Dr. Richard L., 59, Westmont, died peacefully Oct. 14, 2014, at Conemaugh Hospital, after courageously fighting cancer for more than nine years. Born Aug. 31, 1955, son of Shirly Cartwright and the late Richard C. Cartwright, Syracuse, N.Y. Survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Mary Beth (Mosorjak) Cartwright; children, Ben, married to Nikki, Baltimore, Md.; Emily, Johnstown; Chris, Frederick, Md.; and Melinda, Johnstown; brothers, Doug Cartwright, married to Katie, Hudson, Ohio; and Ryan Cartwright, married to Christina, Syracuse, N.Y.; sister, Sherri Bruening, married to Jim, Syracuse, N.Y.; and 16 loving nieces and nephews. Rich practiced internal medicine at Lee Hospital in Johnstown for 19 years. He left his practice to work as the chief medical officer at the hospital. In 2005, when Lee Hospital was sold, he joined UPMC Health Plan as medical director, where he worked full-time until July. He touched many lives through his years practicing medicine. In his last weeks, he received countless visits from former hospital staff and coworkers who wanted to acknowledge and thank him for his commitment to his practice as a physician. His incredible work ethic, dedication and strong faith were passed down to his children. His only desire was to witness them become successful adults. He set the bar high and demanded only the best from them. He sacrificed countless work hours in order to make a better life for his family. Rich is an alumnus of Penn State University and an avid football fan. He was so proud that his four children also attended Penn State. Rich also loved to travel with his wife. In recent years, they were fortunate enough to get to travel to Italy, California, the Bahamas, as well as multiple trips to Rich’s favorite spot, Las Vegas. Rich was a loving husband and father and will be sadly missed by all. Friends received from 2 to 5 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 17, at Frank Duca Funeral Home, Westmont Chapel, 1622 Menoher Blvd., Johnstown, Pa. 15905. Member of Our Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church, where funeral Mass will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, the Very Rev. Mark S. Begly. Interment, Grandview Cemetery. The family would like to acknowledge, with special thanks, the Conemaugh Hospital ICU nurses and the Palliative Care Unit. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Dr. Richard L. Cartwright to Our Mother of Sorrows Church, 430 Tioga St., Johnstown, Pa. 15905. Condolences may be sent through www.ducafuneralhome.com.
