Funeral services for J. T. (Tom) Bowman, 85, Sophia, will be conducted Wednesday at 1 p.m. in the Fred X. Williams Funeral Home Chapel in Sophia with the Revs. Dewey Wilson and W. F. Tolliver officiating. Burial will follow in the Sunset Memorial Park.
Bowman died unexpectedly at 4 p.m. Sunday en route to Beckley.
He was born Jan. 1, 1884, in Winston-Salem, N.C. A retired miner, he was a member of UMWA Local Union 5767 of Helen. A former policeman for the city of Sophia, he was preceded in death in May 1968 by his wife, Hulda Bowman.
He is survived by four sons, Carl of Mead, Robert of Sophia, Tommy and Virgil, both of Baltimore, Md.; three daughters, Mrs. Zina Morgan of Crab Orchard, Clydie and Ruth Bowman, both of Baltimore, Md.; one step-daughter, Mrs. Beulah Kennedy of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., 25 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.
