Dr. James VanBlaricum, age 86 of Mobile, Alabama, formerly of Winchester, died January 1 at Providence Hospital. He was born in Cincinnati, Ohio. He was a medical doctor, having practiced medicine for 40 years, and started his practice in Cowan. He moved his practive to Winchester in the early 1950's. In 1968, he bacame a missionary doctor, donating his medical supplies to the church and opening a practice and a church in Bangladesh (East Packistan at that time). In 1970, he worked in Venezuela for six months, helping the needy there before returning to the U. S. to practice in Woodbury, Tennessee from 1970-1979. He moved his practice to South High Street in Winchester from 1980-1989. He retired and moved to San Antonio, Texas where his children live. He served in the U. S. Army and was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Simonne VanBlaricum; three sons, Robert, Charles, and Samuel VanBlaricum; and by a brother, Charles VanBlaricum. He is survived by his wife, Lala VanBlaricum of Mobile, Alabama; sons, James Edward VanBlaricum of Irving, Texas, Pete VanBlaricum of Winchester, and Tom VanBlaricum of Austin, Texas; daughters, Marguerite Howard of Bentonville, Arkansas, and Jeannie VanBlaricum of Irving, Texas; sister, Esther Elliott of Rio Linda, California; 20 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Service arrangements were incomplete at press time. Interment will be in Franklin Memorial Gardens with Moore-Cortner Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
