NOONAN, N.D. - Emma A. Heuer, 85, of Williston, formerly of Noonan, died Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2003, at Mercy Medical Center in Williston.

Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 17, at Zion Lutheran Church in rural Noonan with the Rev. Larry Glaeske officiating. Cremation has taken place.

Emma Aletta Stensrude was born April 9, 1918, at Black Diamond, Alberta, Canada, to Emelia and Anton Stensrude Sr. The family moved to Columbus, where she grew up and was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.

As a teen, she worked as a housekeeper at various places. While working at the Heuers she met William "Bill" Heuer and they were united in marriage Sept. 5, 1935, at Noonan.
They moved to a farm south of Noonan, For a short time they lived in Williston, where she was employed at the Good Samaritan Hospital. They later moved back to the farm and continued to live there until their retirement in 1969. They then moved into Noonan.

Bill passed away in 1983, and Emma continued to live in Noonan until 1992, when she moved to Williston where she resided at The Kensington and later at the Bethel Lutheran Home.

Emma enjoyed her grandchildren, reading and visiting. She was very knowledgeable of the Bible. When her eyesight failed, she read the Bible and other books by tape and enjoyed to listening to politicians on television.

She is survived by two sons, Arlan and his wife, Kathy and Robert, all of Noonan; three grandchildren, Tim and Brad of Noonan and Shonna Schroeder and her husband, Zach, of Minneapolis; a sister, Clara Gray of Hacienda Heights, Calif.; a brother, Lloyd Stensrude of Sidney, Mont.; and several nieces and nephews.

Emma was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three brothers and three sisters.

The Stakston-Martin Funeral Home of Crosby is in charge of arrangements.
