He was patient at Ft. Whipple Military Tuberculosis Hospital in Prescott, Arizona where he passed away. Due to complications of tuberculosis, which he contracted in W.W.1. His remaines where transported to Linn, Osage county, Missouri for burial. He left a wife and young son upon his death.
Elston served aboard the battleship U.S.S Wyoming in W. W. 1. He was presant at Pres. W. Wilson's arrival at Brest, France. He was also present at the surrender of the German fleet at Scapa Flo, Scotland. Founding member of Osage County American Legion Post #152 (now defunct).
