Mr. Ralph Crowell Sims, 85, retired dairy farmer, died Thursday, October 16, 2014 at his lifelong residence on Foster Chapel Road in the Sawdust Community.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at Oakes & Nichols with Pastor Lawrence E. Jackson, Charles Clark and Ricky Sims officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. The family will visit with friends Friday from 4 – 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Born September 4, 1929 in the family home on Foster Chapel Road he was the son of the late Joseph William Sims and Mattie Bell Jones Sims. Upon his marriage to the former Era Lindsey on July 18, 1954 he brought his new wife to live in his childhood home where they raised their children. This is the only home where Mr. Sims resided from his birth until his death. His life revolved around his farm and family and he enjoyed spending as much time as possible with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He served in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany during the Korean War era. He was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy.

Survivors include his wife of sixty years, Era Lindsey Sims of the Sawdust Community; children, Ricky (Jan) Sims, Carl Sims, Pam (Steve) Anderson all of the Sawdust Community; six grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by an infant son, Michael Ralph Sims, sisters, Mildred Lankford, Hester Neibarger, Marie Prince and a brother, H.O. "Oscar" Sims.

Active pallbearers will be Joey Sims, Will Sims, Matt Anderson, Cameron Sims, Paul Young and Rev. E.C. McKinley. Honorary pallbearers will be Paul Nance, J.R. Anderson, and members of the Charles Clark Sunday School Class.

The family would like to express special thanks to Terry Lindsey, Charles "Towhead" Dale, Dr. Gaylon Harris and his staff, and the employees of Medical Necessities.
