Major League Baseball Player. He was best known for being one of four knuckleball pitchers on the Washington Senators' staff from 1944 to 1946, the others being Dutch Leonard, John Niggeling and Mickey Haefner. The right-hander pitched for the Philadelphia Athletics (1941 to 1943), the Senators (1944 to 1946) and the Cleveland Indians and the Pittsburgh Pirates (1947). He was dealt by the A's on December 13, 1943 for pitcher Bobo Newsom. His best season was 1945, when he posted a 20-10 record with a 2.12 earned run average, 250 innings pitched and 21 complete games in 29 starts. He tailed off to 5-8 the following year and was traded to Cleveland on March 4, 1947 for outfielder George Case. His career totals were 52-69, 3.41 ERA and 63 complete games in 128 starts.
