Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, October 4, 2014 at Taylor Funeral Service Chapel in Hotchkiss, Colorado with Aaron Clay officiating. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Hotchkiss, Colorado.
Leona V. Thornberry was born on October 30, 1916 to Marshall & Lola (Williams) Thornberry in Natoma, Kansas. Her family moved to Hotchkiss when Leona was in the 2nd grade and she resided there throughout her life until moving into Willow Tree Care Center.
Leona married the love of her life, Albert T. Martin, on November 24, 1934 in Hotchkiss, Colorado. He preceded her in death in January 2007.
Leona was a member of the Church of God of Hotchkiss. She loved listening to and playing music. She also enjoyed gardening, canning and in her later years, painting. Leona helped Albert on the farm. Her family raved over her peaches.
Leona is survived by her two daughters: Helen I. Pace, of Glenwood Springs, CO, and Maxine Willis, of Arvada, CO; daughter-in-law, JoAnn Martin, of Clifton, CO; a sister, Eleanor (Dave) Sanders, of Montrose, CO; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Leona was preceded in death by her parents, Marshall and Lola Thornberry; husband, Albert Martin; son, Eugene Martin; two brothers and four sisters.
The family suggests memorial contributions to be made in Leona’s memory to Willow Tree Care Center, 2050 South Main Street, Delta, Colorado 81416, or to the charity of one’s choice.
