Grandma Blake
Elizabeth Johnston was born in Tennessee, March 20, 1850. She moved with her parents to Black Hawk Territory, now State of Iowa, when two years of age.
She was married to William M. Blake March 22, 1873. To this union were born three children. She was preceded in death by her husband in August, 1911, and by her son, Bertram, in 1913. She leaves to mourn her departure her son, Harrison T. Blake of Pawhuska, her daughter, Mrs. Arvilla Thomas of Hillsdale, ten grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
She moved with her husband to Harper, Kansas, in 1878. Then to their claim near Hillsdale in 1894.
She was postmaster of Prairie, the first postoffice established in the community.
When a mere child she became a member of the United Presbyterian church, and wherever she has lived she identified herself with whatever Protestant Evangelical church that was established in the community. Her last membership being with the Congregational church of Hillsdale where she was a faithful attendant. She had been a church member for at least 70 years.
She passed peacefully away on December 22, 1929, at the age of 79 years, 9 months and 2 days, leaving a whole neighborhood in bereavement.
Funeral services were held in the Congregational church in Hillsdale at 1:30 p.m. December 24, conducted by Rev. D. B. Cook and burial was made in the Memorial Park cemetery near Enid.
