Livirtie May (Worthey) Burnham, 81, of Eldon, MO passed away on October 17, 2014 at Oak Tree Villa in Jefferson City, MO after a battle with lung cancer.

Vertie was born on September 14, 1933 in Mt. Pleasant, MO, the daughter of the late Henry Burton and Ruth Marie (Etter) Worthey.

She married Bobby Frank Burnham on August 2, 1954 at Midwest City, OK. Vertie graduated from Eldon High School in 1951.

While Bob served in the Air Force, the Burnham’s moved several times, raising their children in Lee’s Summit; Okinawa; Columbus, OH; and then returning to Mt. Pleasant. Vertie was a Girl Scout leader in Okinawa, Ohio, and later in Eldon. She was a long time member and President of the Board of the Mt. Pleasant Christian Church where she loved teaching Sunday school. She was known for having a beautiful voice and enjoyed singing at church, community functions and with the Capital Kicks Big Band for over twenty years. She served on the Board of the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. She owned and operated a ceramic shop in Eldon at one time, did alterations and worked for Irwin Cleaners for 44 years as a presser and deliverer.

She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Vertie is survived by her husband Bob Burnham of the home, one daughter Kimberly (Don Busken) Burnham of Jefferson City, MO, one son Kenneth (Teri) Burnham of Olean, MO, six grandchildren, Bobby Burnham of San Antonio, TX, Brendan Burnham of New Braunfels, TX, Daniel Britts of Glendale, AZ, Blain Burnham of Bournemouth, England, Brittiany Burnham of San Antonio, TX and Kerra Wieberg of Columbia, MO, three great granddaughters, Aubree, Rylan and Amelia Burnham, two sisters, Marion Eileen Kensinger of Versailles, MO and Patricia (Keith) Derr of Maysville, MO and one brother, Larry (Peggy) Worthey and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Her parents, a brother, Edward Raymond Worthey, a son, Kevin Lee Burnham and her beloved 4 legged son, Boomer preceded her in death.

Visitation will be Saturday, October 18, 2014 from 5:00 – 8:00 PM at Phillips Funeral Home of Eldon, MO. Funeral Service will be Sunday, October 19, 2014 at 2:00 PM at Phillips Funeral Home with Dr. C. Clanton Dawson, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery near Eldon, MO.

In Lieu of Flowers, Memorials are suggested to the Mt. Pleasant Christian Church or the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Phillips Funeral Home of Eldon, MO.
