Jimmy Earl was born April 26, 1938 in Zavalla, to the late Warren and Jimmie (Austin) Hopkins. He passed away at his residence in Tomball on Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2014.
Upon graduating Zavalla High School, he began working for Brown and Root Construction. His first job being the construction of the Sam Rayburn Bridge on Hwy. 147. His job with Brown and Root transferred him to Houston, where he was promoted to Project Manager and served in this position until his retirement at age 65. W.W. Weber Construction recruited him out of retirement to be a Project Consultant, where he was employed until age 70.
He is survived by his wife, Nelda Hopkins; son and daughter-in-law, Carl and Kristi Hopkins; daughter and son-in-law, Sharla and David Rheman; sister, Yvonne (Hopkins) Buford; brother and sister-in-law, J.P. and Lavon Hopkins; sisters-in-law, Eulavia Hopkins and Faye Hopkins; brother-in-law, Bill Terrell; eight grandchildren, four great grandchildren and numerous nephews and nieces.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his son, Richard Hopkins; brothers, Wayne Hopkins, Dan Hopkins and Grady (Bud) Hopkins; and sister, Laura Terrell.
