"The death of Mrs. Irene A. DeForest, wife of Cecil DeForest of Richfield Springs occurred Monday afternoon at 2:10 o'clock at the Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital where she had been a surgical patient for two weeks. Death was caused by peritonitis. Mrs. DeForest was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Barrie Shellner of Cooperstown and was born in Bowerstown May 7, 1900. She attended the local schools and her entire life was spent in this community until six years ago when she moved to Richfield Springs. A wide circle of friends held her in highest esteem and will feel a keen sense of loss in her passing. February 4, 1919, she was united in marriage with Mr. DeForest, who survives, together with the parents, two daughters and five sons, the eldest of whom is seventeen and the youngest four, all at home. They are Katherine, Stanley, George, Cecil, Jr., Robert, Beverley and Harry Douglas. Surviving also are one brother, Harry V. Shellner, and a cousin, Mrs. Leslie Mallory, both of Cooperstown. The body was removed to the McGrath Funeral Home at Richfield Springs, and the funeral was held from the Methodist church there Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock and burial was made in the Hartwick Seminary cemetery."
