Claudia King passed on peacefully in the calm predawn of February 19, 2006, after a long and courageous struggle with breast cancer.

Her death, like her life, was always on her terms. A memorial eulogy service will be held on Friday, March 3, 2006, from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. at Newton-Bracewell Chico Funeral Home.

Claudia lived a long, truly rich life. She was a passionate world traveler, starting young and continuing up until this last year. She was an artist, film-maker, teacher, spiritual guide, writer, thinker, and devout believer. Claudia was a UC, Berkeley graduate and received her Master's Degree from Indiana University at Bloomington, and she taught multiple subjects at all levels, kindergarten through college.

Claudia had a gift for connecting with children and a commitment to making the world a better place.

Born May 1, 1940, the eldest daughter of Alvin and Thelma King of Orland, California, she now joins her father and sister, Patricia Darling, in the hereafter.

She is survived by husband, John Zalais; mother; sister, Sheryl King of Orland; brother, Bruce King of Orland; her two children; six grandchildren; seven nieces and nephews; and the tens of thousands of friends and acquaintances she touched over her sixty-five years with us.

Claudia will be much missed by so many.
