Gelchion, Jr., a long time resident of Bayonne, passed away on Monday, October 13th, 2014 at the age of 89, in Treasure Island, Florida, where he resided for the past 27 years. Matthew served his country in the U.S. Navy in World War II and Korea. During the second World War Matt served on the battleship USS New York and then was assigned to Naval Intelligence in London. He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Church from 1945 until 1987 when he retired with his wife Margaret "Honey" Gelchion to Treasure Island, Florida. While at St. Vincent's Church, Matt was a member of the Holy Name Society, Church Council, taught in the CCD Program. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, Bayonne. Matt is survived by his children Matthew, Mary Pat, Merrill, Peggy, Michael, Joseph and David. 17 Grandchildren and 8 Great-Grandchildren. A Funeral Mass was offered on Friday, October 17th at St. John's Church, Treasure Island, Florida. His cremains will be buried in the family plot in Holy Name Cemetery, Jersey City on Saturday.
