The Kingsley News Times, 5 June 1991, page 3: Velma Cornish, 73, of Kingsley, died on Sunday, May 26, 1991, at the Good Samaritan Center in Holstein, Iowa. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday at the Congregational United Church of Christ in Kingsley. Rev. Art Hermanson officiated and burial was in the Kingsley Cemetery under the direction of the Dickison-Michaelson Funeral Home. Honorary Pallbearers were Florin Moodie and Dale Murray. Active pallbearers were Bill Dalton, Don Davis, Nevin Moodie, Curt Moodie, Bob Hagan and Bob Bleil. Mrs. Cornish, the former Velma Fern Cook was born June 21, 1917, at Clinton, Missouri the daughter of Emmett and Nida Cook. She came to the Kingsley area in the 1930s. She had operated the Beauty Box in Kingsley for many years, retiring in 1980. She married Lloyd Cornish March 26, 1966, at Kingsley. She was a member of the Congregational United Church of Christ and a past member and worthy matron of Garfield Chapter Order of Eastern Star. Survivors include her husband, Lloyd “Mick” of Kingsley, one son and his wife, James and Margaret Hager of Beaverton, Oregon; two brothers, James Cook of Lebanon, Missouri, and Wallace Cook of Kansas City, Missouri, and seven grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents.
