Mr. Benson departed this life Oct. 10, 2014, at the Louis Stokes VA Medical Center in Cleveland.
Mr. Benson was born Sept. 13, 1949, in Youngstown, a son of Herman and Almeda Thomas Benson.
He was a 1969 graduate of The Rayen School and proudly served in the U.S. Navy from 1972 to 1974. He was formerly employed as a maintenance worker with Timken Latrobe in Vienna, Ohio. He was a faithful member of the church, where he served on the usher board. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, fishing and watching football. He will be missed by those who knew and loved him.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife, the former Lovie “Peachie” Tate, whom he married Feb. 23, 1974; his sons, Darnell M. Tate of Youngstown, Frederick (Alicia) Benson Jr. of Orlando, Fla., Derrick (Detrinalyn) Benson of Mineral Ridge, Charles and his fiancée, Lynette Hunt, of Columbus, and Cedric Benson of Youngstown; his daughters, Lovie Benson of Youngstown and Sheronda Benson of Columbus; his sisters, Brenda Blount and Terry Benson, both of Youngstown; his brother, Anthony Benson (Vickie) of Tampa, Fla.; eight grandchildren; five stepsisters; two stepbrothers; and a host of other relatives and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Edward Rayfield, Herman Thomas and Jeffery Benson; and a sister, Vermalyn Benson.
Interment will be at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman.
