An Australian Rules footballer. He made a name for himself for Essendon in the years before the Victorian Football League was set up in 1897, winning 4 premierships from 1891 to 1894 in the VFA. But he had enough left in the tank to be part of the Essendon team that won the first VFL premiership. He was deemed to be the Champion of the Colony in 1891, and while he had a strong and fearsome approach on the field he had a kind nature off it. In a factory once he offered to give up his job to a married man who had been retrenched.

FORBES - On the 20th June, at 419 Batman street, West Melbourne, Charles, the seventh son of the late James and Jessie Forbes, and loving brother of Agnes, Florence and Archibald, aged 57 years. At rest.
