Earl N. Anderson, 101, of Cashton, WI, formerly of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, went to be with his Lord Jesus on December 10, 2021, at his home in Cashton. A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, December 18, 11:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Cashton. Visitation will be held at Torkelson Funeral Home in Cashton from 4-7 p.m. with a Bible service at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, December 17, 2021.
A Visitastion/Gathering will be held at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home on Wednesday, December 22, 2021 from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m.. Burial will follow at 2:30 p.m. at the St. John's Cemetery in Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his son, Larry (Lisa) of Cashton, his grandchildren, Samuel (Jaclyn), Gabrielle (Tyson Rewerts), Levi (Samantha), Anna (Neil Glanzer), Michael, Abel, and Ian. Great-grandchildren are Jordan, Brianna, Galileia, Asher, Quinn, Alexandria, Sadie, Jonah, Kate, Isabella, Caleb, and Joshua.
Earl was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Mabel Anderson, by his wife, Lorraine, by his two brothers, Amos and Floyd, and a grandson, Timothy.
Earl was born December 5, 1920, at Soldier, Iowa. He graduated from Soldier High School and attended St. Olaf College. He married Lorraine Mary Quinn on July 10, 1941, at Sioux City, Iowa. He served in the Army Signal Corps During WWII. He was employed by NW Bell telephone Company for over 37 years and took an early retirement package in 1982.
Lorraine and Earl's retirement years were enriched by their many friends they made while traveling and camping. Earl was an avid reader and enjoyed working with stained glass.
Earl was a member of All Saints Church, the All Saints Resurrection Choir, and the All Saints Prayer Group, as well as being a member of the Catholic Laymen's Club for most of his retirement years.
In 2013, Earl had been caring for his wife, Lorraine, for several years. When it became too much for one elderly man to handle, he moved to Wisconsin to be near his son and family.
Even after moving to Wisconsin, Earl became active at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, in the Sons of Norway, and with the VFW. At 94, Earl joined with a tour group to visit Norway, which had been a lifelong dream. At 96, Earl took a Freedom Honor Flight to Washington DC. Earl often expressed his feelings of being blessed by having a cozy home near his family to live out his last years.
Earl's 101st birthday was Sunday, December 5th. We had an open house for him, which was mostly attended by local family here in Cashton. An ice storm prevented his older friends from attending that day.
The week before Earl's birthday his health began to deteriorate and we were wondering if he'd feel up for company once the day came. He did great and felt as though he had a wonderful birthday and a good time with grandchildren and great-grandchildren. This obit picture was taken that evening. By morning it was as though a switch had been flipped and Earl's lucid periods decreased rapidly over the course of the week. On Friday the 10th his housekeeper and caretaker Jean, had put on Christmas carols to listen to. After a bit, she realized that Earl was no longer breathing. He had peacefully entered into eternity.
