HERE LYES Ye BODY
OF ANNA FRENCH
WIFE TO SAMUEL
---------------------------------------------
Notes: The Puritan spelling would be "Hannah", re-spelled as "Anna" by those among the Scottish who "dropped their h's. Anna's father's name, Alexander, was common among those Scots admiring the old Scottish King Alexander and his mother Queen Margaret. The two had been deemed saints by local Scots for their merciful treatment of the poor, as it was unusual among royals to take the Beatitudes seriously ("Blessed are the poor", "the first shall be last, and the last shall be first", and so on).
