Lillian Margretta Woods (1923 - 2014)

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Longtime Olean resident Lillian Woods passed away peacefully Friday, Oct. 3, 2014, while at her home in Anchorage.
Mrs. Woods was born Feb. 7, 1923, in Olean, N.Y., to Patrick and Katherine Prendergast Cronin.
She married John M. Woods on Jan. 5, 1952, at St. Mary of the Angels Church in Olean. She and her family moved from Olean to Whittier, Calif., in 1966, and from Whittier to Anchorage in 1972. She resided in Anchorage for 42 years. Her husband passed away in 1983. She will be joining him now at St. Bonaventure Cemetery, Allegany, N.Y.
Lillian so much enjoyed spending time with and feeding her family, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, relatives and friends. She enjoyed the years she was able to be a member of the St. Mary's choir in Olean and Holy Family Cathedral in Anchorage. Lillian also took great pleasure in being up to date on news, current events and her knowledge of each word contained in the dictionary.
She was a graduate of Olean High School and Westbrook Academy, she also attended Fullerton College in California. Throughout her life, Lillian was very active in her children's and grandchildren's lives. Her passion was music and she especially loved to sing and play the piano and harmonica. She often spoke about growing up during the trying times of the Great Depression and the World War II, and she always enjoyed hearing and telling family stories while reminiscing over historical events that affected the family over her lifetime.
Lillian was preceded in death by her husband, John; and her brothers, William and Harold Cronin.
Lillian is survived by her two sisters, Eileen and Ronald Welch of Eldred, Pa., and Mildred and Dr. Gerald Deisfeld of Arcade, N.Y.; her daughter, Eileen Perala and husband Andy of Waimea, Hawaii; her son, Michael Woods of Anchorage; her stepson, J. Mark Woods and his wife Mary Beth of Carefree, Ariz.; and her stepdaughter, Kathleen and Bill Masalski of Amherst, Maine. Lillian also leaves behind her loving grandchildren, Maija and Sean Perala, Jared Woods and wife Kaiya Kaltenborn, Ryan Woods, Christian Woods, Courtney Woods, Michael Woods, Randy Woods, Mark Wasolski and John Wasolski; and her precious great-grandchildren, Orion, Aiden, Evan and Emery James; and many nieces and nephews.
Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery.
