OAKLAND - Lois Elaine (Merithew) Bickford, 84, died unexpectedly on Friday, October 10, 2014, at Inland Hospital in Waterville. She was born in Fairfield on May 4, 1930, the seventh of nine children of Miles and Effie (Dickey) Merithew. She worked at Keyes Fibre Company for nine years, until she was able to dedicate herself full time to homemaking and raising her family. Later she returned to work at Sebasticook Valley Hospital in Pittsfield.

She and her husband moved their family many times through the years, including homes in Farmington, Solon, Waldoboro, San Jose, Costa Rica, Madisonville, Kentucky and New Hartford, Connecticut, before returning to Maine. Her favorite activities included spending time with family, planting and tending flowers and making crafts. Having many interests, she played card games and liked to bowl and spend time outdoors. Lois was an active member of the United Baptist Church and enjoyed singing with the choir.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Robert D. Bickford; and siblings Madelene Rines, Merlon Merithew, Frances Babineau, Thelma Black and June Roberts.
