V. Champney dies Saturday; services held
Funeral services for former V's Hotel owner Mrs. Vera Champney, 83, who died in Hayward Saturday, Sept. 14, were held at 11AM Monday, Sept. 16, at the Ascension Episcopal Church, Father Richard Nevius officiating. Interment followed in Greenwood Cemetery.

Prior to her retirement she owned and operated the hotel for many years. The hotel was located at the corner of Iowa Avenue and 3rd Street. Following its closing a few years ago, it was moved to Old Hayward at Historyland.

Survivors include two brothers, Stanley Gagnon, Hayward, and Kenneth Gagnon, Minneapolis; two sisters, Mrs. Bernice Anderson, Clear Water, Florida, and Mrs. Cleo Meade, Kaspian, Michigan, as well as several nieces and nephews. She was a member of the Ascension Episcopal Church.

Casketbearers were Karl Bondehagen, Alvin Madson, Curt Karibalis, John Hagen, Anton Grey, and Leon Plante. The Koerpel Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
