Alice was the third of nine children. The family moved to Giltner in 1923 and Alice graduated from Giltner High School Class of 1932.
On November 25, 1934, she was united in marriage to William C. Mersch at Hampton. Two sons were born to this union: William Lee and Thomas E. They farmed for 25 years. In 1960, they moved into Aurora, due to Mr. Mersch's health. Alice went to work for Ray's Jack and Jill. Mr. Mersch passed away on August 21, 1960.
Alice was married to Howard (Bud) Plant on January 21, 1968 at Aurora. They continued to live in Aurora. Bud passed away on July 31, 1986.
Alice was a member of the Aurora United Methodist Church, the Dorcas Circle, the V.F.W. Auxiliary and the Grand Island Earth Science Society. She enjoyed fishing at her cabin in Central City, quilting, crocheting, bowling, spending winters in Quartzite, Arizona, attending rock swaps, camping and playing cards.
She was preceded in death by her parents and both husbands; 2 brothers, Clyde Raines and John Raines; 4 sisters, Ruth Humrich, Grace Mitchell, Minnie Graf and Ella Dieckmann.
Those left to cherish her memory are her two sons, William (Marlene) Mersch and Thomas (Emily) Mersch all of Aurora; 2 grandsons, Mark (Devi) Mersch of Omaha and Bill (Kerilyn) Mersch of Aurora; 2 granddaughters, Monica (Joesph) Deming of Loveland, CO and Jennie (Matt) Snoberger of Hampton; 6 great-grandchildren, Terryn and Taylor of Omaha, Jack and Emma of Hampton and Kelsey and Kylie of Aurora 2 sisters, Mabel (Neil) Ruebsamen of Grand Island and Edith Brenning of McCook and several nieces and nephews.
