Mrs. Julia Winogene Ryan, 71, former resident of Muncie and wife of J.C. Ryan, died Tuesday afternoon at St. Mary's Hospital, Tucson, Ariz., following a brief illness. She was a native of Delaware County and the daughter of Luther and Julia (Stradling) Shirey. She spent most of her life in this community, and was a graduate of Muncie High School. She was also a graduate of Oberlin College in 1914. She and her husband moved to Wisconsin in 1944 and to Arizona in 1957. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Women's Athenaeum Literary club and University Women, all in Muncie.

Survivors include three sons, Dr. Robert C. Ryan, Muncie, James E. Ryan, Dubuque, Iowa, and Richard A., Santiego, Calif.; two sisters, Mrs. William Putenney and Miss Ivy Shirey, both of Muncie; and 13 grandchildren.

The body will be taken to Meeks Mortuary where funeral arrangements will be announced later.

Services for Mrs. Winogene Ryan, former resident of Muncie, wife of J.C. Ryan, who died in Tucson, Ariz. Tuesday, will be held at First Presbyterian Church 3 p.m. Sunday with Rev. Lewis Weber Gishler officiating. Interment will follow in the family lot in Beech Grove Cemetery at 9:30 a.m. Monday. The family will receive callers at the church an hour before the services. The casket will not be opened. The Meeks Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
