Esther Hansen was born Dec. 19, 1908, on a farm southwest of Herman to Fred and Marie Kubie.

She attended the one-room Broderson School, and then graduated from Blair High School in May of 1926. After attending Wayne State College, she took classes at Dana College and the University of Nebraska.

After teaching 11 years in Washington County schools, she was married to Einar Hansen. The couple were blessed with a son, Don.

After Don reached school age, Esther went back to teaching, later doing substitute work at the three elementary schools in Blair.

She taught at Cumming City School from June 1955 to May 1970.

She enjoyed reading her Bible until her vision failed, and then loved listening to talking books.

Esther C. Hansen, 105, of Blair, died Friday, Oct. 10, 2014, at Memorial Community Hospital in Blair.

She is survived by her son, Don (Debby) Hansen of Blair; grandson Scott (Lara) of Westminster, Colo (Jake, Hanna, Zoe and Cooper); granddaughter Kelli Schroeder of Blair (Jennie); her sister-in-law, Francis of Omaha, and many nieces and nephews.

Esther was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Marie Kubie; her husband, Einar; her sister, Florence; and her brother, Howard.
