Terry, Foss Bell
Age 89, passed away peacefully on Sunday January 17, 2010 in Ann Arbor, MI. A long time resident of Monroe, CT and previously of Haworth, NJ, Mr. Terry was born in Chicago, IL in 1920. His parents were Schuyler Baldwin Terry and Phebe Frances Bell Terry Cryder. Foss B. Terry served as a sergeant during WWII in the Army Corp of Engineers. He attended several colleges including Cal. Tech and the University of Michigan before receiving his Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering from the Brooklyn Polytechnic Institute of New York City. However, his allegiance always remained with the University of Michigan. Mr. Terry was an engineer at heart. Tales of his childhood reflect tinkering and engineering pranks. His work experience includes helping with the guidance system for the Saturn V rocket used in the Apollo moon program. Later, he became the Applications Laboratory Manager for Branson Ultrasonics. Mr. Terry was an engineer of the old school. Although he was a chemical engineer by training, it was not in his nature to be a specialist in one field. Mr. Terry had eclectic interests, and was always willing to investigate a new field. His hobbies always involved electronic and technical endeavors. Mr. Terry would work on communication systems, for Civil Defense, Public Address systems for churches, fix computers, and helped his own church enter the computer age. Once, he drove his son Bill to take an F.C.C. exam for a radio license. This led Mr. Terry to become involved in a community radio station. Eventually, he earned a Class I radio license and became the Chief Technical Operator of WMNR in Monroe, CT. Mr. Terry was also a dedicated life long church member wherever he lived. He found joy in Choirs - Glee Clubs - and church fellowship groups. He often served on official boards as well. Foss Terry is preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Eleanor Merrill Terry (1994), and his son Schuyler Baldwin Terry (2005).
A memorial service will be held at Westminster Presbyterian Church Friday, 2 p.m. February 5, 2010. Memorial contributions may be directed to the music programs of either Westminster Presbyterian Church of Ann Arbor MI or the Monroe Congregational Church U.C.C. in Monroe, CT. Arrangements entrusted to the Muehlig Funeral Chapel, Ann Arbor.
