H D East of near Tilden died at the age of 68. He was stricken with paralysis while in Tilden, from there he was taken to his home where he lived for several days. Henry Deppe East was born in Washington county Jan. 6, 1854, and died Oct. 28, 1922, at his home near Tilden. He spent most of his life in this community.

He was married Sept. 29, 1881, to Mary Alice Dickey of Coulterville and to this union were born five children the oldest dying in childhood, the other four are: Mrs. Lon Lively, Sparta, Mrs. Frank McDill, Sparta, Mrs. Val Kinzel, Marissa and Mrs. Otto Zacheis, Oakdale. He had eleven grandchildren, and is also survived by four brothers and three sisters, Elsworth and Carlton of Coulterville, Frank of Waterman, Levi of Salem and Mrs. Lou Stalker of Boulder Colo., Mrs. Cora Grenig and Mrs. Maud Beier, of Centralia.

Mr. East first united with the United Presbyterian church and later joined the M. E. church when it first started in Tilden where he was a faithful member until death.

The funeral services were held from the home Monday afternoon at 1:30 by his pastor, Rev. Smith of Tilden assissted by Rev. C. S. Tritt, pastor of the M. E. church in Sparta. Interment was made in Coulterville cemetery. -- Coulterville Republican.
