Mr. Robert “Bob” Schoen, 86, of Rochester was surrounded by his loving family when he passed away at 12:42 AM on Monday, October 6, 2014, in the home he built nearly 60 years ago.

On January 10, 1928, Bob was born in Macy the treasured son of George and Georgia See Schoen. Growing up he shared his childhood with two sisters Helena and Georgiana and a brother Herb. In 1946 he graduated from Macy High School. During his high school years, he played basketball for the Macy Yellow Jackets. Bob was a flashy point guard snapping precision passes, garnering the nickname "Trigger." After High school patriotism beckoned and Bob answered the call serving our country with the United States Army during the Korean War.

With a vast arsenal of skills, always working with his hands to create perfect outcomes Bob was dedicated and devoted to the Sealed Power Corporation working as a machinist for 46 years. During this time he served the Union Local # 221 as steward, President and trustee. He was also self-employed contractor for 35 years handling the heating and cooling for many families around the area. In 1956 - 1957 he built the home that he presently lived completing all phases of the project.

A Dad who truly cherished and adored his children Bob was up for an adventure and taught his kids many skills and appreciation of nature and history while they were in their formative years. He instilled a strong work ethic and modeled values. There were many trips camping from Jellystone to Yellowstone and many places in-between. He introduced them to the World's Fair in Seattle in 1964. The Wisconsin Dells, Mt. Rushmore and the Grand Canyon were among the most memorable destinations. A passionate family man, Bob once took the entire family to return to the Schoen roots in his family's homeland, Germany. They visited his father's home, the cathedral where Grandpa George attended church, then traveled on to Switzerland, Denmark and France making many life-long memories.

On February 20, 1998, in Hawaii, Bob and Dolores Caskey were married. Together they enjoyed nearly 16 years of life's adventures. A lifelong traveler, Bob and Dolores returned to Hawaii for seven more visits and many times staying for a on month stint. They relished traveling to Phoenix several times.

Spending many hours in his garage-workshop, as a perfectionist Bob repaired many things. He was known as a Jack of all trades and he mastered them all. He created modifications to help himself with everyday living, customizing his lawn mower among projects he generated with great ingenuity.

Bob will be lovingly remembered by his wife Dolores; two daughters: Sandy and husband David Strzempek of Traverse City, MI, and Susan and husband Ken Kandell of Eaton Rapids, MI; a son, Bobby Schoen and wife Lori of Rochester; 5 grandchildren: Angela Dillingham of MI, Brody Schoen and fiancee' Ariel Morelock of Indianapolis, Zac, Garrett, and Shelby all of Rochester; two step-children: Sue Hiatt and husband Dave of Muncie, and J.W. Campbell of Elwood; two step-grandchildren: Ben and Jacob Hiatt; a niece, Karen Landgraf of San Jose, CA; a nephew George Herbert Emmons of Boston, Mass; his cherished feline companions, Shelly the Calico and Rambo the Tiger.
