She grew up in Big Rapids, MI, where she met her future husband, John Watson in church. They were later married on March 16, 1946 in Vevay, IN. Esther and John enjoyed travel, including cruises to the Bahamas and Hawaii, and trips all across America. Esther would plan the trips and John would drive from one end of America to the other, most of the traveling spent in pursuit of spending time with family. Adventurous of spirit, Esther even ventured to Saudi Arabia to visit her daughter.
Esther always made you feel at home; she was strong, independent, loving, giving and fair. Ever frugal, she could squeeze a dollar out of a dime and she loved playing cards, and other fun games with her sisters and family.
She touched so many, she taught us so much, to never give up - “it will all work out,” she taught us how to be strong, and most of all to love and laugh. We will miss her so very much.
Esther is preceded in death by her parents, husband of 66 years John in 2012; son Alan Watson in 1961; brothers, Kenneth and Jack; and sisters, Margaret and Marcella.
She is survived by her two sons Phillip (Cecylia) and Gary (Louise) Watson; daughter, Patricia (William) Amey; grandchildren, Phillip, Scott, Sarah, James, Jason, Karen and Johnathon; 12 great-grandchildren; and her sisters.
Funeral services were held Saturday, October 18, 2014 at Pray Funeral Home with Pastor Jim Vander Schuur officiating.
If desired, memorial contributions may be made to a hospice organization of your choice.
Arrangements by Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte.
