Age 95 of Horseheads, NY passed away unexpectedly on Friday April 03, 2009 at Arnot Odgen Medical Center. Dorothy was born on December 31, 1913 on Armenia Mountain, PA, to the late Edward and Helen Lyon. She married her Husband Clarence Hoyt on October 28, 1950 and they would have celebrated their 59th anniversary on October 28th, 2009. Dorothy graduated from Elmira Free Academy in 1931 and the Arnot Odgen School of Nursing in 1938. She worked as a nurse for many years at the Arnot, various Doctors Offices, Visiting Nurses and Elcor. She was a communicant of St. Mary Our Mother Church in Horseheads. Dorothy was also pre-deceased by brothers; Robert, Edward and Stuart Lyon and a sister, Marjorie Vite. Dorothy was very proud of her family and cherished the time she spent with them and she loved to point out her position as the Matriarch of her loving family. Mrs. Hoyt is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 59 years Clarence; daughters & son in law, Midge Hartman of Horseheads and Janet (John) Tighe of Horseheads; Grandchildren; Roger (Michelle) Hartman of Horseheads, Courtney (Patrick) Bola of Horseheads and Ian Tighe of Horseheads. Great grandchildren: Joshua, Keshia, and Larry Hartman of Horseheads; sisters-in-law; Beverly Lyon of Branchport, NY, Patricia Lyon of Cranberry Twp. Pa. and Polly Lyon of Elmira. Dorothy was very active in her community serving as a member of the Horseheads Fire Department Auxiliary for 50+ years, a charter member and Senior Regent of the Women of the Moose of Horseheads, a volunteer for many years as a Girl Scout leader, and a very active member of the Ladies Home Bureau of the Catalpa Drive area. The family will welcome relatives and friends to Sullivan's Funeral Home, 365 E. Franklin St. Horseheads, NY on Tuesday, April 7, 2009 from 5-8PM. The Horseheads Chapter of the Women of the Moose will conduct a Memorial Service for their departed co-worker, Dorothy, at 7:30PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday morning, April 8, 2009 at 10 AM at St. Mary Our Mother Church, Horseheads, NY. Dorothy will be laid to rest immediately following at St. Mary Our Mother Cemetery.
