Michael Darlington "Doc" Hawk, 50, of Shillington, died on August 23rd. He was the husband of Joanne K. Matz and the father of a daughter and a son. Born in Stamford, CT, he was the son of the late John A. Hawk, Jr., and Delite Hoopes Hawk. Doc was a graduate of Governor Mifflin High School, The University of Washington, and received his Master's degree from Temple University. Mike, the name he used at work, lived his passion for helping people, most recently through his employment at InVision Human Services. He was active as a coach and supporter of Mifflin Area youth sports. Doc was a member of the First Universalist Unitarian Church of Berks County where he would be found with the children teaching religious education classes. In addition to his wife and children, he is survived by a brother, and a sister.
Doc was a passionate person. He loved coaching youth sports, listening to music, casual dress and going barefoot.
A Celebration of Life service is scheduled at the Crowne Plaza Reading on September 30, 2012 at 1:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, contributions will be accepted into a fund to benefit the family: Doc Hawk Family Benefit, 621 Governor Drive, Shillington, PA 19607.
