Wesley J. Eckhardt, 83, of San Antonio, died Friday, October 5, 2007.

He was born on May 9, 1924 in the Post Oak Community in Blanco County, Texas. He attended school at Post Oak, Lower south Grape Creek and Stonewall High School in Gillespie County.

Wesley served three years with the United States Army in the 75th Infantry Division. He obtained the rank of Staff Sergeant and served 18 months in the E.T.O. seeing action in three major battles. Upon his discharge from military service he joined his brothers in a building contractor partnership.

In 1988, Wesley semi-retired from the custom home building business in which he worked for 40 years to do home repairs. He was an avid outdoorsman. He lived to hunt and fish on his ranches in Gillespie County.

On September 26, 1948, Wesley married Loreen Duecker in Holy Ghost Lutheran Church in Fredericksburg, Texas.

He is survived by his wife, Loreen; his daughter, Bonnie and his son, Steven and daughter-in-law Karen, and four grandchildren, Stacey and Jamie McClister and Kaela and Kyle Eckhardt, as well as many friends and other relatives. Wesley served his church, St. John's Evangelical Lutheran in the past years by being on the board of trustees, board of deacons, and as a Luther League sponsor.

SERVICES Visitation will be Sunday, October 7, 2007 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Mission Park Funeral Chapels North. A celebration of Wesley's life will be held on Monday, October 8, 2007 at 2:00 PM at St. John's Lutheran Church. Interment will follow in Mission Burial Park North.
