Former Derry Merchant Dies
Salvatore (Sam) Battaglia, 136 S. Chestnut St., Derry, died in Latrobe Hospital 6:30 a.m. Sunday. Operated a combination grocery and fruit market in Derry, until 1961. Born in Termini, Italy, June 6, 1899, son of the late Salvatore and Josephine Gatto Battaglia. Member St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Derry, Derry Merchants Association, Sons of Italy, Latrobe. Wife Antoinette Battaglia preceded in death in March 1957.
Surviving children: Salvatore Jr., Josephine, Rose Marie, all at home; brother and sister, Augustine, Cosimo, Antonio, all of Italy; Joseph, Mrs. Rocco (Virginia) LeSepa, both of Toronto, Canada.
Friends may call at the Fisher Funeral Home, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily with requiem mass at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 9 a.m. Wednesday. Interment in St. Vincent Cemetery.
