Born to Vernon Alvin and Anna Deal Robinson Black. He married Ida Luetta McAllister on June 22, 1962 in the St. George Temple. He graduated Kanab High School in 1956 where he enjoyed sports such as football, basketball and track. He excelled at pole vaulting and took first place in the Dixie Invitational and 4th place at BYU Invitational. He had a great love for the outdoors and did gardening, masonry and wood working.

He received an associates degree from CSU, then served a mission to the West Spanish American and West Mexican Mession. He received a Bachelors from Utah State University. He taught 4 years in Kanab then after teaching 1 year in Calexico CA he moved to Fredonia AZ and taught for 25 years. He received his Master's Degree at NAU in 1973.

He served in the Town of Fredonia on the Historical Society Board and Planning and Zoning Committees.

A humble man who had a great love for the Savior and enjoyed his children and grandchildren, camping, four-wheeling and fishing which has become a family tradition. He served many callings in the church including Scout Master, Bishop, ordinance worker and Sealer in the St. George Temple. He and his wife served 3 temples missions in Santiago Chile; Cochambamba Bolivia and Panama City, Panama.

He is survived by his wife, son V. Alan Black and daughter, Kayleen Robinson, 10 grandchildren; siblings Gayle Stewart, Carolyn Banks, Beverlee Thorson and Kerry Black.

He was preceded in death by his parents, twin great-granddaughters and brother in law David Ralph Stewart.
