Constance Margaret Hughes (nee Croghan), age 93, formerly of Cascade, WI, passed away peacefully early Sunday afternoon (Oct. 12,, 2014) at Anita’s Garden where she had been a resident the past 6 years.

She was born on October 27, 1920 in Sheboygan, WI, a daughter of the late George and Viola (Bubb) Croghan.

She attended Holy Name Catholic Grade School and graduated from Central High in Sheboygan in 1938. Connie furthered her education at Sheboygan County Normal School and taught school at Mapledale and Waldo Elementary schools prior to her marriage.

On October 31, 1942 Connie and Thomas “Dobby” Hughes of Cascade, WI exchanged vows at Holy Name Church in Sheboygan. Connie and Dobby lived in Cascade after their marriage. Thomas preceded her in death on August 16, 1975.

Connie was proud of her Irish heritage. Music was an important part of Connie’s life, especially singing and playing the piano. She spent many years teaching religious education and singing in the choirs at St. Mary’s Catholic Church and St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Connie loved dogs and often carried treats with her to give to them. Connie will be remembered for her strong faith and her love for her family.

Connie is survived by five children: Patty (Lowell) Wynveen of Cascade, Michael (Janet) Hughes of Plymouth, Robert (Kathy) Hughes of Fond du Lac, Tim (Sheryl) Hughes of Plymouth and Dennis (Dianne) Hughes of Plymouth; fourteen grandchildren: Mike (Tresa) Wynveen, Ann Fenske (Friend: Lynn Vollmar), Heather (Steve) Steinhardt, Natalie (Josh) Gossens, John (Kathy) Hughes, Andy (Amy) Hughes, Shannon (Dan) O’Reilly, Lauren Hughes (Fiancé: Jonas Baltuska), Patrick (Erin) Hughes, Maggie (Steve) Stielow, Matt Hughes, Angie (Eric) Rehbein, Jenny Lemberger and Tony (Audrey) Lemberger and twenty great grandchildren.

Connie was preceded in death by her parents; husband: Thomas and one grandson: David Wynveen.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday evening (Oct. 15th) at 6:00 P.M. at St. John the Baptist catholic church in Plymouth. Father Dan Volkert, pastor of the church will officiate. Cremation will follow the services and inurnment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Cascade.

Friends may call at the CHURCH on Wednesday (Oct. 15th) from 4:30 P.M. until the time of services. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established in Connie’s name.
