Hon. Samuel McCune Wherry was the son of Samuel and Margaret McCune Wherry of Shippenburg, Pennsylvania.

Hon. Samuel McCune Wherry graduated from Princeton college in 1860; read law with Judge Watts; served as a member of the Constitutional Convention of Pennsylvania in 1872; edited the Carlisle Volunteer in 1877-78 and was a member of the Pennsylvania Legislature in 1887, 1888, 1889 and 1890.
