Benjamin Bubar Jr. China 77. Died early Monday, 5-15-1995 at a Waterville hospital after a long illness. He was born in Blaine 6-17-1917 the son of Rev. Benjamin and Mary Louise (Heal) Bubar Sr. Educated in the public school of Blaine, he was a graduate of Danforth High School, Ricker College in Houlton and Colby College. Ben had also done special studies at several other institutions of higher learning. in 1950 he was ordained as a minister, while serving as pastor of the Baptist Church in Allagash. Active in political affairs, he was elected in 1938 to the Maine House of Representatives as its youngest member, where he served 3 terms, from 1939-1944. For 30 years he was the superintendent of the Maine Christian League, retiring in 1983. In that capacity Ben was involved in numerous civil, political and religious organizations. In 1976 he was the prohibition party candidate for president of the United States. For 30 years he was the editor of the Civic League Record as well as the League's other publications and bulletins. Beginning in 1970 he owned the China Lake Marina which he operated with his sons. Survivors include his wife, Virginia (Ireland) Bubar of China, 2 sons, B. Calvin Bubar III and his wife, Nancy of Brewer and Mark Bubar and his wife, Jacqueline of Hanover, MA., 5 grandchldren, Amy Bubar of Boston, MA., Heidi and Ben Bubar, both of Brewer, Jacquelyn and Jonathan Bubar, both of Hanover, MA., 3 brothers and 1 sister, all members of the clergy, several nieces, nephews and cousins. Burial China Extension cemetery.
