Rev. Eddie B. Roden, 80, of Kennett, died Friday, Feb. 11, 2005, at his residence.
Born Feb. 19, 1924, in Kennett, son of the late Amos Robert and Pearl Evans Roden, he was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in WWII, a volunteer fireman, member of the Kennett Kiwanis Club and Kennett Masonic Lodge . He pastored numerous Baptist churches in the area before retiring in 2001.
On June 28, 1941, he married Laverne Waddell, who preceded him in death on Aug. 9, 2001. He was also preceded in death by four brothers, Bill, Neddie Murl, Robert Lee and Bobby Earl Roden and one grandson, Stephen Scott Mercing.
Survivors include two sons, Thomas Roden, of Memphis, Tenn., and Conn Burl Roden, of St. Louis, Mo.; four sisters, Vera Smith and Dorothy Jo Richts, both of St. Louis, Maxine Fitzpatrick, of Malden, Mo., and Pat Firebaugh, of St. Charles, Mo.; three grandchildren, Shane Conley Roden, Sheena M. Roden and Stacey Christine Robinson and one great-grandchild, Peyton Leigh Robinson.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 14, at the McDaniel Funeral Home Chapel in Kennett with the Rev. Tim Abanathy officiating.
Burial was in the Memorial Gardens Cemetery at Kennett.
