Karen Marie Chandler, age 83, died October 12 at Altercare of Bucyrus from complications from a stroke. Karen was born February 15, 1931, to the late Harry and Marge (Granner) Frank. She married John Chandler, the love of her life, on January 1, 1951, and he preceded her in death on February 9, 1994.

Karen is survived by three children, Kathy (and Bob) Gobrecht of Bucyrus, Patti (and Dick) Gervais of Galion, and Chris (and Linda) Chandler of Bucyrus. She was preceded in death by a stillborn daughter Elizabeth Ann Chandler in 1960. She has five grandchildren, John (and Jodi) Gobrecht, Jason Chandler, Christi (and Matt) Crall, Lindsay (and Nick) Arndt, and Leslie (and Ryan) Gusching, and step-grandson Christopher Garrett (and fiance Amanda Hoffman). She also has ten great- greatchildren.

Karen lived her entire life in the Mt. Zion area, graduating from Mt. Zion school in 1948. She was a cook at the Mt. Zion School and then cafeteria supervisor at Wynford for many years. She was also a caterer and cake decorator. Creating good food was a passion of hers.

Karen was a member of Good Hope Lutheran Church in Bucyrus. She taught Sunday School in her younger years, and in her later years organized funeral luncheons at the church.

Karen was a founding member of the her neighborhood mothers club, Bibs to Bobbysocks (later the Mod Moms). She was active in the Wynford Athletic Boosters for many years, overseeing concessions stands and many other projects. She was a scorekeeper for her son's Little League team and later her granddaughter's. She enjoyed watching the sports and activities of her children and grandchildren.

Karen enjoyed family, friends, weekends at Lake Erie, playing cards, traveling and reading. She had a love of nature and animals, enjoyed wildflowers in the spring, gardening, and walks in the woods. Family, extended family, neighbors, and friends were always welcome at any gathering. Lonely or widowed people from the neighborhood were always included at holiday meals or celebrations. She enjoyed people and parties, always ready to stay late, laugh, and enjoy herself and others. Her love of life will be missed.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday at 1:00 pm in Good Hope Lutheran Church with Rev. David Bliss officiating, burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Munz-Pirnstill Funeral Home on Tuesday from 3:00 pm until 7:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Humane Society or Children’s Hospital.
