Howard J. "Coon" Thompson, 77, of West Deer died at 4 a.m. Sunday (Jan. 27, 2002) in his home.
Born Sept. 19, 1924, in Claytonia, Pa., he lived in West Deer most of his life.
A veteran, he served in World War II with the Army Air Corps in Europe.
He was as a prisoner of war for 17 months after his plane was shot down over Germany.
Mr. Thompson was a packer at Glenshaw Glass for 30 years.
He was a member of Lighthouse Fellowship Center, Buffalo Township, and the Glass Workers Union, Shaler.
He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and attended karate class with a grandson.
Survivors include his wife, Viola Ricci Thompson; two sons, Joseph S. Thompson of Buffalo Township, and David J. Thompson of West Deer; a daughter, Mrs. Jan (Raymond) Thompson-Miller of West Deer; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three brothers, Francis "Blue Jay" Thompson of Saxonburg, and Clifford Thompson, and Harry "Mick" Thompson, both of Fawn; and four sisters, Kathern Dodson of Sanford, Dorothy McKay of Sodus, N.Y., Edith Comperatore of Naples, Fla., and Mrs. Marie (Wallace) Miller of Fairless Hills.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bert S. and Sadie Crouch Thompson; a brother, Bert Thompson; and a sister, Grace Bryan.
Friends will be received from 7 to 9 tonight and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in SIWICKI-YANICKO FUNERAL HOME, 23 McKrell Road, Russellton, where services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday. Officiating will be his pastor, the Rev. Richard Shick. Burial will be in Lakewood Memorial Gardens, Indiana Township.
