Military service of applicant: He was a soldier in the Revolutionary War and in the War of Shay's Rebellion and a Lieutenant of Militia, as recorded in the published history of the Town of North Brookfield, which was compiled by the Hon. Charles Adams, the Hon. Freman Walker and other distinguished residents of that town. Further than this I can only add that in my boyhood I frequently heard it stated that he enlisted when he was only 15 years old and served to the end of the war; about three years.
The first dated incident in the said history of my ancestors, is the birth on November 2, 1639, in the town of Salisbury, Mass., of John Stevens, son of John Stevens 1st and the town history gives a very complete record, with some history of the family from that time down to the date of my marriage Aug 22 1870. I have a son, Perley Egbert Stevens, who is a civil engineer in St. Paul, Minn., and a daughter, Hellouise Waller, and a granddaughter, Dorothy Waller.
