Cpl Robert E. Raney graduated Monon High School in 1943, where he was a member of glee club, a drum major and a treasurer of the band where he played the Trumpet. Monon High School created the Robert E. Raney Memorial Award, which is still given every year at North White High School to an outstanding musician. Robert was a radioman on a B-24 Liberator serving in the United States Army Air Force. His B-24 military plane was shot down over New Guinea during World War II. Military occupants was never found until recently. His parents, Lewis E. and Roxie Raney, and grandparents, Thomas Jefferson Raney and Dorcas Hughes Raney. The Rolling Thunder and ALR, as well as the Patriot Guard Riders were in attendance for his burial.
Quote from his high school yearbook:
"Me afraid of work? Not on your life! I can lay down beside it and go to sleep." He was 19.
