Carol Lynn Elaine Stephens, 71, passed away Friday, Oct. 10, 2014, at Ashley Manor in Pocatello, Idaho.

Carol was born in San Pedro, Calif., on Sept. 16, 1943, to John Drury Stephens and Margueritte Elaine Dudley. Carol attended school at Lutheran Elementary School through eighth grade and O’Leary Junior High for one year. She graduated from Twin Falls High School in 1961. Carol graduated from Idaho State University in 1965. She taught English and drama at Jerome High School, then moved to Carey, Idaho, to teach English and drama at Carey High School. In 1972, Carol moved to Hailey, Idaho, and became a freelance writer for a couple of newspapers and magazines. She traveled the Sun Valley area covering news items and current events in Sun Valley to Bellevue. Ketchum Wagon Days and the shootout in Bellevue were some of her favorites. Carol moved to Twin Falls and went to work for KTFI Radio reporting the news. As news director, Carol interviewed many local and state leaders. She served on the Twin Falls 75th Anniversary Celebration Committee. She loved the people of Twin Falls and the heritage of early pioneers among whom were her grandparents who helped carved the city of Twin Falls out of the sagebrush. Carol was a talented photographer and often entered pictures in the Twin Falls County Fair and won many awards, including best in show. She was also an avid reader and enjoyed science fiction. She was active in the Twin Falls Rose Society and supported the National Alliance on Mental Illness. She had a kind and loving heart for those with special needs.

She was preceded in death by her father; mother; brother, James D. Stephens; and her dogs, Rebel and Sisi. Carol is survived by her bother, Walter (Sherry) Stephens; niece, Tracy (James) Rivera; nephew, Scott (Crystal) Stephens; one great-niece; and four great-nephews.

We give thanks to Ashley Manor for its kindness and concern for Carol’s well-being. And a special thanks to Solice Hospice for giving Carol comfort and a loving hand in her closing days. Honoring Carol’s wishes, she will be cremated under the care and direction of Downard Funeral Home, 241 N. Garfield Ave. in Pocatello.
