Johannes "John" Boot was born on 10 Jan 1901 at his parents' home in Prairie Township, Marion County, near Pella, IA. He died on Christmas Day, 25 Dec 1991, when living at his home at 52577 Oskaloosa, Mahaska, IA. [See obit for indicating that he died in the hosptial]

His father, Arie, had been born in Pella, IA in 1862 after his parents (John's grandparents) immigrated from the Netherlands. Pella was founded in 1847 by Dutch immigrants and was a destination for a number of immigrants from the Netherlands after the US Civil War. John's mother was born in the Netherlands in 1877, and her parents immigrated to Pella, IA with the family prior to her marriage to Arie in 1897.

It should be noted that the name "Boot" in German and Dutch was pronounced similarly to "Boat" in English, and some documents transcribe the family name as Boat instead of Boot.
