The following was written by Frank's daughter Millie who lived to age 103 [1906-2009]

Millie Oesterreicher Carter writes in a letter 10 September, 1999 ... "My dad too liked to talk and visit with folks. He loved music, always sang in the church choir as far back as I can remember. And he played the cornet[trumpet] in the town band from the time he was a young fellow to as long as they still had a band.

When he was 20 years old in 1898 he spent the winter learning the harness trade - not only how to mend and oil harness, but how to make a set of harness from scratch from a big side of tanned leather - and he worked at that off and on through the later years, -mostly during the winter months.

Another thing he enjoyed was running the big steam engine in summer at harvest time when they threshed the wheat and oats. He and two neighbors owned the outfit together. He was a farmer with crops of corn, alfalfa, wheat, etc. but he was a pretty good carpenter too."
