Son of Beriah and Lucy Bishop. Married Ruth Bartlett, daughter of Hooker Bartlett and wife Ruth Parmelee, on September 29, 1773 in Guilford, Connecticut. They had seven children: Lucy; Elizabeth; Beriah; Beriah; Hooker; Nathaniel; Henry. Wife Ruth died 15 days after the birth of her son Henry.

Nathaniel Bishop married second wife Nancy Pomeroy on March 2, 1797 in Middletown, Connecticut. They had one son, Pomeroy. Nancy died ten days after his birth.

Nathaniel married third wife Sally Landon, daughter of Ezekiel and Azuba Landon, April 1798 in Salisbury, Connecticut.

Nathaniel Bishop has been recognized by the Daughters of the American Revolution as a Patriot because of his patriotic service as a Representative in the Massachusetts State Legislature. Nathaniel Bishop was one of three directed by Court of General Sessions (1786) to superintend and have finished as soon as possible a new county building to be located in Lennox.

Nathaniel Bishop: born in Guilford, Connecticut 1751, removed to Richmond in 1777 and soon rose to eminence. He served in Legislature, was a register of Probate from 1795 to 1811. He served well his role as a public man (attorney) and was a splendid example of good citizenship. He died in 1826.
