Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2014, at 11 a.m. at Emanuel United Methodist Church with the Rev. Eddie Morrison officiating, and the eulogy being given by Verlene Bennett and Sharon Dunlap. Burial will follow in the Emanuel United Methodist Church Cemetery, with Bo Kennison, Luke Kennison, Hunter Kennison, Mike Chapman, Bill Peterson, and Mike Yawn serving as active pallbearers.
The family will be receiving friends at Chapman Funeral Chapel from 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, Oct. 13, 2014.
L.E. is survived by two children, Barry Chapman (Laurel) of Brunswick, and Marcia Kennison of Waynesville; a sister, Frankie Drury of Columbus, Ga.; three grandsons, Bo Kennison (Lyn), Luke Kennison (Claudia) and Mike Chapman (Kim); nine great-grandchildren; and several beloved nieces and nephews.
L.E. was born Aug. 21, 1926, in Brantley County to Luther Eldon Chapman and Cora Lee Edgy Chapman. He was a graduate of Brantley County High School, was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during World War, II, and was a self-employed pulp wood producer. He was an active member of Emanuel United Methodist Church and the Men’s Sunday school class, and was a founding member of the Men’s prayer group. He was a participant in the Veterans Honor Flight trip to Washington, D.C., in 2011, and was active with Boy Scouts of America.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife and the mother of his children, Marion L. Bell Chapman.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial donations to Emanuel United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund.
