William Clifton "Clif" Fanning, 64 of Gresham OR, passed away on Tuesday, September 30, 2014. He was born on October 21, 1949 in Watsonville, California to William and Bonnie Fanning and graduated from Watsonville High School in 1967. Clif was a veteran of the US Navy from 1969 to 1975 and served on the USS William H. Stanley. He received his Bachelor of Science in 1977 from Cal-Poly University in San Louis Obispo, California. Clif worked for the Bureau of Land Management as a soil scientist from 1977 until his retirement in 2010. He was an avid outdoorsman which included hunting, fishing and hiking. Clif is survived by his wife Peggy Fanning of Gresham OR; sons Jordan Fanning of Brookings OR and Joshua Fanning (Autumn) of Santa Ynez CA; brother Shawn Fanning of Oklahoma; sister Vicki Webb (Jim) of Prosper TX and granddaughters Aspen Fanning and Wren Fanning. He was preceded in death by his daughter Karissa Fanning in 1980. A Celebration of Clif's Life in pending. Private inurnment at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, Oregon.
