Amelia Ann "Millie" DeLude was born July 10, 1883, in Concordia, Cloud County, KS. Her parents were Noah and Amelia Fountain DeLude who had 16 children. Millie visited relatives in Stroud, Lincoln County, OK., in 1900, and was included in the 1900 census in Keokuk Township, Stroud, OK. It is here that she met Samuel "Sam"Elliott Talkington who was living in Stroud and were married September 11, 1900 in Chandler, Lincoln County., OK.

Sam and Millie had seven children in which the first two, Roy and Norman were born in Stroud, OK. The family moved to Cottonwood Grove in 1904. The town of Cottonwood Grove was renamed Verden, in 1907, when the town was incorporated at statehood. Sam purchased a 160 acre farm four miles north, one mile west, and 1/2 mile north and the family grew up on the farm. The rest of the family of Orgel, Orville, Leo, Mae, and Bernice all were born in Verden.

Millie acted as a midwife for births of many neighborhood children and was also an excellent seamstress, quilter, and cook for family and harvest hands. She helped raise Hallie Vickers, a young girl in need, and they remained good friends, forever.

Sam and Millie moved into town in 1941 and rented the farm until daughter and son-in-law, Bernice and Bill McComas, purchased the farm in 1949.

Millie died November 7, 1967 in Chickasha, OK., and is buried at Fairlawn cemetery in Chickasha. She is preceded in death by parents Noah and Amelia DeLude and all siblings; son, Norman Talkington.
