Charles was the 1st of 5 children (3 sons and 2 daughters) born of Samuel Wright (b. 1683) and his wife Jemima King. Charles siblings were Jemima (b. 1722), Ann, Samuel, and Josiah (b. 1726).

Charles married in Amherst, Hampshire County, Province of Massachusetts Bay, October 19, 1742, Ruth Boltwood (1722-1806) by whom he had 8 children (5 sons and 3 daughters): Solomon (b. 1743), Samuel (b. 1745), Dorcas (1750-1813), Josiah (1752-1817), Sarah (b. 1757), Esther (b. 1760), and Solomon (1762-1837).

At the age of 36 years, Charles entered His British Majesty's service on September 15, 1755 as a Corporal and served under the command of Captain William Lyman of Northampton, Hampshire County, Province of Massachusetts Bay on the Crown Point Expedition. Charles was discharged on November 3, 1755 after serving 7 weeks and 1 day.

In 1758, Charles served 16 weeks and 2 days as a Sergeant in His Majesty's service from July 1st until discharged on October 22nd. He at first served under the command of Lieutenant and Captain John Caltin to September 24th and then under the command of Captain John Burk until discharged.

At the age of 40 years, Charles, a resident of Amherst, Hampshire County, Province of Massachusetts Bay, served for 32 weeks and 2 days under the command of Captain Elijah Smith in Colonel Israel Williams Provincial Regiment on the Expedition against Canada (the Expedition to Crown Point) led by Major-General Jeffery Amherst, Esq., Commander in Chief of His Majesty's British Forces in North America. Charles entered that service on April 25, 1759 and was discharged on December 6th the same year.

The Charles Wright Family removed to Pownal on the New Hampshire Grants (now Bennington County, Vermont) in 1763.
